Key takeaways

  • NetSuite is a mature cloud ERP with strong financials and multi-entity support, sold through quotes.
  • Odoo is modular and flexible, with open-source roots and published per-user pricing that varies by plan and region.
  • Business Central suits Microsoft-centric businesses; list prices rose on November 1, 2025 to $80 (Essentials) and $110 (Premium) per user per month.
  • Custom or configurable ERP makes sense when operations are unusual or the system is a competitive advantage.

Choosing an ERP is one of the biggest technology decisions a growing company makes. The four options below cover most of what we see in the market for small and mid-size businesses. None is best for everyone; the right choice depends on your processes, ecosystem and budget.

NetSuite

Oracle NetSuite is a cloud ERP with strong financial management, multi-subsidiary and multi-currency capabilities, inventory, order management and a wide partner ecosystem. Pricing is quoted based on modules, users and service tier rather than published. It suits growing companies, especially those with several entities or international operations, that want a proven, broad platform.

Odoo

Odoo is a modular suite covering accounting, inventory, manufacturing, sales, CRM, e-commerce, HR and more, with open-source roots. Businesses can start with a few apps and add others. Odoo publishes per-user pricing for its plans, which varies by plan and country, and customization is common through partners. It suits companies that want flexibility and a broad suite at a competitive price.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Business Central is Microsoft’s ERP for small and mid-size businesses, with finance, sales, purchasing, inventory and project capabilities, and tight integration with Microsoft 365, Teams and Power Platform. Microsoft raised list prices on November 1, 2025 to $80 per user per month for Essentials and $110 for Premium, with Team Members licenses for lighter users. It suits organizations already invested in Microsoft tools.

Custom or configurable ERP

A custom or configurable ERP platform is built or shaped around your exact processes, data model and workflows. It suits businesses with unusual operations, offline or field-heavy work, or processes that are a competitive advantage. It requires a capable development partner and clear ownership.

Pricing changes frequently and depends on modules, users, region and partner services. Confirm current pricing with each vendor or partner.

How to decide

  1. List your must-have processes and run scripted demos against them, not generic sales demos.
  2. Check integrations with your CRM, e-commerce, banking and shipping tools.
  3. Compare five-year total cost: licenses, implementation, customization and support.
  4. Speak to references in your industry and size.
  5. Assess the implementation partner as carefully as the software.

Do not forget the CRM

Whichever ERP you choose, sales and service teams often work in a CRM such as Salesforce. Plan the CRM–ERP integration from the start: who owns customers, products, prices, orders and invoices, and how they stay in sync.

Frequently asked questions

Which ERP is cheapest?

It depends on users, modules and implementation. License price is only part of the cost; implementation and support often matter more.

Can these ERPs integrate with Salesforce?

Yes. All have APIs and integration options, through connectors, iPaaS platforms or custom integrations.

When does custom ERP make sense?

When standard products force major workarounds, operations are unusual or offline-heavy, or the system itself is a competitive advantage.
